This Broadway or the Staged Reading of US Weekly?

Due to the number of shows closing this month on Broadway for various reasons, and the hits that have huge movie stars, I thought that the video “The Superior” by the Southern Mothers would be rather appropriate, particularly since Superior Donuts is closing today.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go kick myself for not seeing it when it was running at Steppenwolf. And try to find donuts.

  1. The line about “is this Broadway or a staged reading of US Weekly” is my favorite line. So true! I’ll admit there’s something tempting about seeing an actor I know from movies or tv on Broadway. And yet it’s almost always the veteran stage actors who end up impressing me the most.

  2. There are TV and movie actors that I see their names and think, “Hmm, I wonder how good they are.” And there are probably TV and movie stars that are good on stage. But you can’t beat stage actors.

  3. I’ll go out on a limb here and say: Michael McKean isn’t exactly an unknown commodity. I’m sure his involvement in the show helped bring it to Broadway.

  4. Michael McKean isn’t an unknown name. I don’t know if his involvement helped it get investors; we might never know.
