Equity has a casting notice for “Love Never Dies,” the
much anticipated sequel to “Phantom of the Opera,” which is expected to open in October on Broadway.
Anyway, the plot sounds okay. But what really makes me raise my thick eyebrows is the description of characters. For the Phantom:
“Must possess effortless gravitas and sexuality.”
And for Raoul, who will be Christine’s husband:
“Must possess domineering gravitas and sexuality.”
So, for the 2009-2010 Broadway season we have Sarah Ruhl’s play about the vibrator, Julie Taymor/Bono’s Spider-Man stage version, I think the musical version of “Catch Me If You Can,” and “Love Never Dies.”
Cast Raul Esparza in one of the roles with gravitas and sexuality and we’ll talk.
